Embodiment 1

[0098] Embodiment 1 (prior art):

[0099] Two examples are provided with powdered material formulations which are extremely different in "range".

[0100] Recipe 1.1

Embodiment 2

[0101] Embodiment 2 (the present invention)

[0102] In order to reduce formaldehyde-based resins, the composition according to the invention (recipe 2.1) was designed based on potato flour and pea starch with a high percentage of 99% and with an amylose content of 36.7%.

[0103]

[0104] When formulation 2.1 was used, it was observed that the irritation sensation was significantly reduced close to the manufacturing bench, especially when compared to that of the prior art composition (Example 1 ) with very similar water resistance.

[0105] When comparing recipe 2.1 with the other two recipes 2.2 and 2.3 hereinafter, they themselves also contain different proportions of pea starch according to the invention.

[0106] The pea starch has a high percentage of 99% and has an amylose content of 36.7%.

[0107] Recipe 2.2

[0108] Recipe 2.2

[0109] While all three formulations provide very large reductions in the amount of melamine-formald...

Embodiment 3

[0111] The procedure for making small slats using recipes 2.2 and 2.3 is for the laboratory and has two steps:

[0112] - After pre-conditioning (20°C-65%RH), gluing by spreading 2 and 3g of adhesive, which is tested at 100cm 2 Carry out on the surface of Gabon wood, spruce or poplar (10cm×10cm×1.5cm),

[0113] - Simultaneous heating (surface temperature: 180°C) and pressurization (7bar / cm 2 ). Water resistance was judged by an immersion test in which the test sample was submerged under a load of 100 g.

[0114] Foaming tendency was assessed by a grading scale of 0 (poor) to 5 (excellent).

[0115] Bond quality was evaluated by measuring the tensile strength of the adhesive bonded on an Instron 1122 testing machine.

[0116] According to classes D1 and D2, the water resistance is excellent (formulation 2.2), or very good (formulation 2.3) in terms of complete absence of blistering and very good dry tack.

Abstract

The invention relates to an adhesive composition, characterised in comprising at least one vegetable starch the amylose content of which is between 30 and 60%. The invention further relates to the method for using said composition, including application thereof to lignocellulose materials, the forming of a panel and the hot pressing thereof. The emissions of formaldehyde vapour during said method are as low as possible. The invention further relates to the panels produced as above and in particular the panels emitting reduced amounts of formaldehyde into the atmosphere.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a novel adhesive composition useful for the manufacture of panels made of plant material, especially lignocellulosic material, which enables the manufacture of panels with very or extremely reduced formaldehyde vapor emission, in particular is during the heat-pressing phase. Background technique [0002] For the purposes of the present invention, the expression "boards made of vegetable material" is used to denote boards of wood origin, i.e. various plywood strips, particle boards, fibreboards known as "sandwich" boards, oriented strand boards (OSB) 、Isorel  Formwork, recycled chipboard called "plywood", and "box-like" chipboard, which combine components of the same type or different types, such as wood and metal. [0003] The invention also relates to a method for the manufacture of panels made of plant material, especially lignocellulosic material, in particular for the manufacture of particleboard or plywood panel...
