The NC 10 runs a program based on G-code, which is translated into machine tool motion by servos 36 controlled by a motion control system 32 . In this example, motion is in the x, y and z planes. In addition to the tool, the measuring probe 30 can also be mounted on the spindle 32 of the machine tool. Probe 30 is moved around workpiece 34 under program control and data 16 on the offset of stylus 38 relative to the main body of probe 30 may be transmitted to receiver 14 . This data can be used to determine workpiece size, geometry and surface finish, among other things. The program is loaded into the NC 10 using the Application Programming Interface API 18 .
