Embodiment 1

[0143] EP1 (12060 g) was mixed with 1507 g of ACR1 and 151 g of PI1 at 20°C with a mechanical stirrer until homogeneous. The mixture was then heated in an oven at 50°C for 2 hours. After the mixture was removed from the oven, 1206 g of DICY was added over 10 minutes with stirring. EMI (76 grams) was then added and stirring continued until dissolved, resulting in Composition 1.

Embodiment 2

[0145] The procedure of Example 1 was repeated except that the amount of EP1 was reduced to 11306 grams, 754 grams of NOV1 were added to the mixture after the addition of DICY, and 114 grams of CUR1 were used instead of EMI, resulting in Composition 2.

Embodiment 3

[0147] The procedure of Example 2 was repeated except that the amount of EP1 was reduced to 10553 g, NOV1 was replaced by 1507 g of ETA2, and CUR1 was replaced by 76 g of EMI, resulting in Composition 3.

Abstract

The present invention provides a curable composition comprising: an epoxy resin (preparable by reacting epichlorohydrin with at least one of bisphenol A or bisphenol F), a multifunctional (meth)acrylate, Dicyandiamide and photoinitiators. The curable compositions are useful in preparing treated backings and coated abrasive articles.

Description

Background technique [0001] Generally, coated abrasive articles have abrasive particles affixed to a backing. More commonly, coated abrasive articles have a backing comprising two opposing major surfaces and an abrasive layer affixed to the major surfaces. The abrasive layer typically contains abrasive particles and a binder, where the binder serves to secure the abrasive particles to the backing. [0002] One common type of coated abrasive article has an abrasive layer, wherein the abrasive layer has a make layer, a size layer, and abrasive particles. In making such a coated abrasive article, a primer layer comprising a first binder precursor is applied to the major surface of the backing. The abrasive particles are then at least partially embedded in the primer layer (eg, by electrostatic coating), and the first binder precursor is cured (ie, cross-linked) to fix the particles to the primer layer. A topcoat layer comprising a second binder precursor is then applied over t...
