Abstract

A superframe, method and system for transmission of an aggregation of packets at multiple rates includes a header (300) comprising a preamble (305) and a PHY layer convergence protocol (310), a plurality of MAC management protocol data units (205), a beacon; and a super protocol service data unit header (315). A plurality of multi-rate aggregated packets (327) is grouped together in the superframe to provide power savings for the receiving nodes that can receive the packets in a reduced number of transmissions. Grouping the packets according to the MAC destinations also provides for shortening reception times by the nodes, resulting in power savings. The superframe permits the MAC service data units to be delivered to each of the nodes, resulting in power savings. The superframe permits the MAC service data units to be delivered to each of the nodes at different PHY rates to maximize efficiency.

Description

technical field

[0001] The present invention relates to apparatus and methods designed to use a form of data transmission with a superframe of multiple packets. More particularly, the present invention relates to improvements and power savings for Multi-Receiver Aggregation (MRA) data rate transmissions. Background technique

[0002] The physical layer of current wireless systems, such as LANs operating under access protocols such as IEEE 802.11, has several different modulation and coding schemes. The choice of these schemes usually depends on the maximum data rate, assuming that the packet error rate is less than a given threshold.

[0003] For example, Task Group N of the current IEEE 802.11 specification is developing new physical (PHY) and medium access control (MAC) specifications for high data rate WLANs. Several industry groups are currently preparing the Task Group N proposal, among them the industry association TGn Sync. The current specification of TGn Sync doe...
