A method for precisely positioning play progress in IPTV includes packing up a numbers of frame pictures at each interval on appointed time interval from program source, sending information as of these programs to EPG system server after said frame pictures are processed and compressed, setting said information in corresponding program and using it as part of program information, finding out a numbers of frame pictures in EPG program information at the same time section with time as cursor-pointed when cursor controlled by user is moved on play progress column after program is on-demand by user then displaying said pictures on screen.
