Abstract

The invention concerns a method for making a chlorohydrin including the following steps: (a) reacting a polyhydroxylated aliphatic hydrocarbon, an ester of a polyhydroxylated aliphatic hydrocarbon, or a mixture thereof, whereof the alkali and / or alkaline-earth metal content is not more than 5g / kg, an oxidizing agent and an organic acid to obtain a mixture containing at least chlorohydrin and by-products; (b) subjecting at least part of the mixture obtained at step (a) to one or more treatments in steps subsequent to step (a); (c) oxidizing at a temperature not less than 800 DEG C at least at one of the steps subsequent to step (a).
