Abstract
Description
[0001] The present application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 61 / 793, 857, filed on Mar. 15, 2013, titled “HIGH EFFICIENCY DEGRADER FOR RADIATION ENERGY SELECTION SYSTEM”. The foregoing patent application is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety for all purposes.TECHNICAL FIELD
[0002] Embodiments of the present disclosure relate generally to medical devices, and more particularly, to radiation therapy devices.BACKGROUND
[0003] In a typical proton therapy system used for tumor radiation treatments for example, a proton beam can be produced in an accelerator, e.g., cyclotron or a synchrotron, in a fixed level of energy that can be then adjusted to a prescribed energy level through energy degradation and energy selection. An energy degrader disposed in vicinity of the accelerator is commonly used to decrease energy of the proton beam. For instance, a cyclotron can produce a proton beam of 250 MeV protons with an emittance of roughly 4 Pi...
