The invention provides a method and a system for improving communication security of an intelligent electric meter. The method comprises the following steps: a peripheral device converts a meter number of a communication target electric meter into a corresponding BCD code; the peripheral equipment embeds an equipment type identification code of the peripheral equipment into a specified position of the BCD code to generate an equipment communication address; the peripheral equipment initiates a communication request to the target ammeter by taking the equipment communication address as a source communication address; after receiving and analyzing the communication request, the target ammeter respectively executes verification items: verifying whether the BCD code in the source communication address corresponds to the own meter number; extracting an equipment type identification code embedded in the source communication address, and checking whether the peripheral equipment has the requested authority or not by querying a pre-configured access control strategy; and if any verification item is not passed, rejecting the communication request. According to the invention, a standard communication address which is associated with the target electric meter and contains own identity information can be dynamically generated for various peripheral devices, and device identification and security access control are realized based on the address.

USB power saving protocol and controller

Disclosed herein are systems, devices, and apparatuses for a USB protocol. The USB system includes a communication interface that is configurable to communicate in a first universal serial bus (USB) communication mode or a second USB communication mode. The USB system also includes a processor configurable to send receiver detection signals to a peripheral device over the communication interface to determine whether the peripheral device is capable of communicating in the first USB communication mode, wherein the processor is configured to send an initial signal of the receiver detection signals to the peripheral device and, if a response to the initial signal of the receiver detection signals indicates that the peripheral device is incapable of operating in the first USB communication mode, refrain from sending subsequent ones of the receiver detection signals.

Peripheral device sandbox

A method for authorizing a peripheral device to be operably connected to a host device. The method includes receiving an indication that the peripheral device has been physically connected with the host device. An additional step includes generating a sandbox environment within the host device. An additional step includes obtaining enumeration data from the peripheral device and obtaining a device signature identifying the peripheral device. An additional step including comparing the device signature with authorization data to determine if the peripheral device is authorized to operably connect with the host device. A further step includes, if authorized, allowing the peripheral device to operably connect with the host device, or if not authorized, denying the peripheral device to operably connect with the host device.

Device, system and method for remote operation of local peripheral devices

A computing system registers peripheral devices in communication with a first computing unit via local communication links. Registering peripheral devices virtualizes peripheral devices at the computer system thereby making peripheral devices available for use by computing units in communication with the computer system, and wherein registering peripheral devices occurs via a peripheral device virtualization application installed at the first computing unit in communication with the computer system. The computing system receives from a second computing unit, a request for a list of peripheral devices, and provides back the list of peripheral devices. The computing system receives, from the second computing unit, a selection of a peripheral device, of the peripheral devices, and enables use of the peripheral device at the first computing unit, by the second computing unit, via the peripheral device virtualization application at the first computing unit.

Communications management leveraging status information from shared resources

Techniques for managing user presence based on an operation state of an external peripheral device connected to a computing device are described. The method determines whether the external peripheral device is being utilized when performing an activity relating to a first software application executing on the computing device. In response to determining utilization, state information for the user is updated to indicate an active state based on the activity performed on the computing device or with respect to a user identity associated with the first software application. During activity performance, a second software application obtains the state information and updates a user presence status to indicate that the user is currently in an active operation state according to the state information indicating the active state. The method enables cross-application presence management by leveraging peripheral device usage patterns to maintain accurate user availability status across multiple software applications and computing environments.

Techniques for coupling peripheral devices in low-and zero-trust environments

Disclosed herein are methods for coupling a peripheral device to a client device. The methods include computing usage data for peripheral devices coupled to a fleet of client devices; adding peripheral devices from the peripheral devices coupled to the fleet whose usage data meets a threshold to a whitelist; detecting an attempt to connect a new peripheral device to an individual client device; determining acceptability of the new peripheral device based on its presence on the whitelist, and, in response to the determining: coupling the new peripheral device on the individual client device if the new peripheral is on the whitelist; or preventing the coupling of the new peripheral device on the individual client device if the new peripheral device is not on the whitelist. Methods and systems and for operating low-trust computing environments with acceptable peripheral devices are also disclosed.
