Abstract

The present invention provides a backlight device used in a color liquid crystal display device (LCD). The backlight device generates white light by mixing red light, green light and blue light emitted by a light source. The light source includes a red light-emitting diode (21R) emitting red light with a half-value width hwr of 15nm≤hwr≤30nm, and an emitting half-value width hwg. A green light-emitting diode (21G) that emits green light with a range of 25nm≤hwg≤50nm and a blue-light emitting diode that emits blue light with a half-value width hwb of 15nm≤hwb≤30nm (21B). White light is applied from the back side of a transmissive color liquid crystal display panel (10) including a color filter (19) having three primary color filters for wavelength-selectively transmitting red, green, and blue light. .
