Abstract

A transmitting apparatus, which is directed to improvement of the signal quality of a downlink channel, transmits a control channel, a pilot channel and a data channel. This apparatus comprises a means for transmitting the data channel by use of a multi-beam comprising a plurality of fixed directivity beams each having a different fixed directivity or by use of a variable directivity beam having a directivity varying with the position of a mobile terminal; and a means for transmitting, as the pilot channel, a predetermined known signal by use of the multi-beam or variable directivity beam.
