Abstract
A polymerization process for producing polyolefins, which process employs a spray-dried catalyst composition, is provided. An example of a process is a gas phase process for making polyolefins, including: (a) forming a suspension comprising (i) a metallocene catalyst, (ii) an activator; and (iii) a support material, in a diluent; (b) spray-drying the suspension to form a catalyst composition; and (c) contacting the catalyst composition with ethylene and at least one comonomer selected from the group consisting of C4 to C8 alpha olefins in the fluidized bed of a gas-phase reactor for a time sufficient to form a polyolefin composition, wherein an external co-catalyst is absent or substantially absent from the gas-phase reactor.
Description
technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of polyolefins, and more particularly to a process for the preparation of polyolefins using a spray-dried catalyst composition. Background technique [0002] As a result of the development of metallocene-based olefin polymerization techniques, many new polymers can be prepared with improved properties for a wide range of applications. However, as with all new technology areas, and especially for the polyolefin industry, small savings in cost can often make the difference between a commercial venture and a viable one. The polyolefin industry is primarily focused on the development of new and improved catalyst systems. Some research is devoted to designing catalyst systems that can prepare new polymers, others to improve operability, and a great deal to improve catalyst activity. Catalyst productivity, defined as the amount of polymer produced per gram of catalyst, is often a key economic f...
