Embodiment Construction

[0016] In the following, in order to better describe the first preferred embodiment such as that described in Fig. 4a and Fig. 4b, will first introduce figure 1 , figure 2 and image 3 Schematic diagrams of a battery charging circuit coupled to a current limiter circuit in charge-play mode, a current limiter circuit boosting a linear current with a constant load, a current limiter circuit boosting a non-linear current with a constant load as described in block diagram.

[0017] exist figure 1 Among them, the battery charging circuit coupled to the variable current amplifying circuit 200 through the terminals in and out includes a terminal CHG connectable to the DC power source 100 and the accessory 110, a terminal BAT connectable to the battery 10, and a terminal BAT coupled between the two terminals. The gate-controlled switching device 20 is controlled by the driving circuit 40 through the resistive element 30 , and the resistive element has a resistance R0 with a suffic...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a circuit configuration for detecting and rapidly limiting large current increase based on high current injection at the output terminal (out). In particular, a gate-controlled switching device (PO), controlled by a driver circuit (40) through a low resistive element (RO) and passed through by a current overshoot, will be alternatively driven by the circuit of thepresent invention while having its control terminal charged by the high injected current. Thus, when large voltage increase generated by a steep front impulse with a positive slope is detected by thecapacitor (C) and transmitted to the gate terminal (GateN), the circuit of the present invention bypasses the driver circuit (40) while injecting a significant current peak issued from the transistor(P3) towards the gate terminal (GateP) of the gate-controlled switching device (PO), whereas the capacitor (C) is discharging very slowly through the gate terminal (GateN). The current amplification leading to the injected current peak is made through the use of the current mirror (P4, P3) with a large current mirror ratio and enhanced by the presence of the diodes (DO, Dl).

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to current limiter circuits, and more particularly to high speed circuits capable of sensing and limiting excessive current overshoot based on high current injection into the control terminals of switching devices. This circuit is unidirectional, limiting current increases but not current decreases. Background technique [0002] For example, portable and mobile devices such as cellular telephones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), portable personal computers, video cameras, digital cameras, or MP3 players require battery power to operate when AC power is not available. For example, the circuitry for such a mode of operation consists of controllable switching devices that separate the battery from the device and exhibit low resistance in the 0.1-0.5Ω range. Since this circuit also acts as a battery charging circuit, it can be connected to a DC power source such as a wall plug adapter at any time at the same terminals tha...
