Problems solved by technology

However, said fixed method for uplink control information reporting can be wasteful and cause unnecessary interference
For example, the DCC may have been constructed to a size capable of accommodating wireless terminals that require the highest level of uplink DCC reporting; The wireless terminal transmits some redundant or least useful information, thus wasting wireless terminal power and generating unnecessary uplink interference
Alternatively, in some embodiments, when the wireless terminal does not need to transmit as much control channel reporting information as is possible by scheduling the amount of resources, the wireless terminal may choose not to transmit information corresponding to some air link resources information, thus wasting air link resources

[0089] Figure 1 shows an exemplary communication system 100 implemented in accordance with the present invention. Exemplary communication system 100 includes a plurality of cells: cell 1102 , cell M 104 . Exemplary system 100 is, for example, an exemplary Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) spread spectrum wireless communication system, such as a multiple access OFDM system. Each cell 102, 104 of the exemplary system 100 includes three sectors. Cells that have not yet been subdivided into sectors (N=1), cells with two sectors (N=2) and cells with more than 3 sectors (N>3) are also possible according to the invention of. Each sector supports one or more carriers and / or downlink tone blocks. In some embodiments, each block of downlink tones has a corresponding block of uplink tones. In some embodiments, at least some of said sectors support three downlink tone blocks. Cell 102 includes a first sector (sector 1 110), a second sector (sector 2 112), and a third ...

Abstract

Wireless terminals and base stations support multiple modes of dedicated control channel operation, wherein wireless terminals are allocated with different amounts of dedicated uplink resources for reporting control information. A set of dedicated control channel segments is utilized by a wireless terminal to communicate uplink control information reports to its serving base station attachment point. Full tone and split-tone modes of dedicated control channel operation are supported. In full tone mode, a single wireless terminal is allocated each of the dedicated control channel segments associated with a single logical tone. In split tone mode, dedicated control channel segments associated with a single logical tone are allocated between different wireless terminals, with each of the multiple wireless terminals receiving a different non-overlapping subset of the dedicated control channel segments. Logical dedicated control channel tones can be dynamically reallocated for full-tone mode use or split tone mode use.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to wireless communication methods and devices, and more particularly to methods and devices for implementing and using dedicated control channels. Background technique [0002] In multiple-access wireless communication systems, multiple wireless terminals typically compete for limited air link resources. A wireless terminal operating in a state supporting both uplink and downlink user data traffic signaling typically needs to routinely communicate control information to the base station attachment point. The information can be communicated in the form of control information reports that allow the base station attachment point to characterize the wireless terminal and allocate resources efficiently. As the popularity and variety of wireless communication services has increased, the need to support an even greater number of simultaneous users has grown. Additionally, events and / or time may drive peak concurrent user demand...
