Problems solved by technology

Although the role of nodulation factors on nodulation has been widely studied and summarized, for example, Ferguson and Mathesius, J. Plant Growth Regulation 22:47-72, 2003, the mechanism of action of nodulation factors independent of nodulation has not yet been fully open

[0025] 1, Soybeans treated with LCO+chitin / chitosan (Northrup King S24-k4) blade

[0026] A soybean field trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of LCO and two commercially available chitosan products on grain yield when applied alone or in combination to foliage. The two commercially available chitosan products used in this trial were BEYOND TM (Agri-House Inc., 307 Welch Ave, Berthoud, CO) and - 4PDB (Plant Defense Boosters, 235 Harrison St, Syracuse, NY). BEYOND TM The precise concentrations of chitin / chitosan in ® are unknown, but estimates range from 6-12% w / v chitosan and 0-3% w / v chitin, based on U.S. Application No. 6,193,988. - The concentration of chitosan in 4PDB was 4% w / v. -4PDB does not contain chitin. exist - The concentration of chitosan in 4PDB was 4% w / v. LCO products are produced by Rhizobium leguminosarum bv viceae and contain approximately 1x10 -8 M's LCO. The field trials were located near Whitewater, WI on a site characterized by Milf...

Abstract

Compositions and methods for enhancing plant growth and crop yield in legumes and non-legumes are described. The compositions include lipo- chitooligosaccharides in combination with chitins/chitosans or in combination with flavonoid compounds or in combination with a herbicide. The method includes applying the compositions to seeds and/or plants either concomitantly or sequentially.

Description

Background technique [0001] Nitrogen fixation plays a crucial role in agricultural production by converting available atmospheric nitrogen into a form usable by plants. In legumes, symbiotic interactions between plants and nitrogen-fixing bacteria of the Rhizobium family (rhizobia) promote plant growth and increase crop yields. This symbiotic interaction is initiated when the plant releases flavonoid compounds that stimulate rhizobia in the soil to produce "nodulation factors." Nodulation factors are signaling compounds that induce early nodulation in plant roots, leading to the formation of nodules containing nitrogen-fixing rhizobia. Although this process typically occurs naturally over time in legumes, agricultural production has evolved to initiate the process earlier. The process involves providing the seed or soil with nitrogen-fixing bacteria and applying the nod factor directly to the seed or soil before or at planting. [0002] By means other than nodulation, nodul...
