Abstract

This invention relates to reactive systems for the production of low density, cavity filling polyurethane foams for NVH (noise vibration and harshness) application areas in which the system exhibits reduced VOC emissions. These foams comprises an isocyanate-reactive component having a viscosity of at least about 3,000 mPa.s, at 23 DEG C., and comprises at least one amine-initiated compound which contains isocyanate-reactive groups.

Description

Background of the invention [0001] The present invention relates to a reaction system used in the production of cavity filling low density polyurethane foams for NVH (noise vibration and harshness) applications, which system exhibits VOC (volatile non-volatile organic components) emissions are reduced. These foams contain isocyanate-reactive components, one or more of which preferably start with starters containing amine groups. [0002] Cavity-filling low-density polyurethane foams are suitable replacements for plug-in bulkheads that suppress the transmission of noise through vehicle body structures because of their cost and performance advantages. However, it can be seen that there are concerns regarding exposure of workers in areas where such foams are applied (eg, automotive assembly areas) to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from the raw materials of the foam system. VOC emissions, which are typically measured according to US EPA Method 24, can be reduced accor...
