Embodiment Construction

[0017] figure 1 and 2 A first embodiment of the lamp is shown in . The lamp has a base part 1 of insulating material for fixing the lamp in a lamp holder, which base part 1 is provided with electrical contacts (not shown in the figure) for connecting the lamp to corresponding power contacts in the lamp holder device. In addition to base part 1, figure 1 The lamp is shown in cross section. The lamp further comprises an inner bulb 2 enclosing a discharge space 3 filled with an ionizable gas. The two electrodes 4, 5 are embedded in the transparent material of the inner bulb 2 and extend in the discharge space 3 from opposite sides. The inner bulb 2 has two end portions 6, 7 accommodating current source means. The current source arrangement in each end 6, 7 comprises a lead wire 8, 9 and a molybdenum foil 10, 11 connected to each other. Electrodes 4, 5 are connected to molybdenum foils 10, 11, respectively.

Abstract

A high-pressure discharge lamp comprising an inner bulb (2) witha discharge space (3) containing an ionizable filling is described. Two electrodes (4,5) project from opposite sides into thedischarge space (3). An outer bulb (13) surrounds theinner bulb (2) and a current-supplyconductor (12) extends outside the outer bulb (13) forsupplying an electric current to one of the two electrodes (5). A starter antenna (14) is connected to the current-supplyconductor (12). The starter antenna (14) passes through an opening (15) in the wall of the outer bulb (13) and extends towards the outer surface ofthe inner bulb (2).

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a high-pressure discharge lamp comprising: an inner bulb having a discharge space containing an ionizable filling; a first electrode and a second electrode protruding from opposite sides into said discharge space; an outer bulb having surrounding the inner bulb; and a current source conductor extending beyond the outer bulb for supplying current to the second electrode. Background technique [0002] High pressure discharge lamps of this type can be used in many applications, for example headlights of automobiles. The inner bulb contains the light source of the lamp, while the outer bulb is made of a material that absorbs ultraviolet radiation from the inner bulb. Such a high-pressure discharge lamp with an inner bulb and an outer bulb is disclosed in US Pat. No. 5,736,811. [0003] In general, high-pressure discharge lamps of this type have the disadvantage that they require a relatively high operating voltage to initiate the...
