[0097] Licowax SW is an acid wax, purchased from Clariant, with a melting temperature of about 80°C measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and an acid value of 115-135 mgKOH / g. The composition of the prepared ink is given in Table 2. All inks are prepared by the following method: pre-melting the ink components, then mixing the melt in a heated container for 4 hours while gradually adding the dye. All inks were then filtered through a 0.45 micron Parker filter and evaluated. The commercially available solid inkjet ink was measured as a control.

Abstract

A solid or phase change inkjet ink incorporating a polar acidic wax is described. The use of polar waxes as an ink additive improves the polarity of the ink and adhesion of the ink to paper. A method for applying the solid or phase change ink incorporating an acidic polar wax additive to form an image is also described.

Description

Technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to inks, such as solid or phase change inks. In addition, the present invention also relates to the preparation of solid or phase change inks, especially solid and phase change inkjet inks, and their use in methods of forming images, especially their use in inkjet printing. Background technique [0002] Inkjet devices are known in the art, so there is no need to describe such devices in detail herein. As described in US Patent No. 6,547,380, which is incorporated herein by reference, there are two main types of inkjet printing systems: continuous flow type and drop-on-demand type. In a continuous flow inkjet system, ink is ejected in a continuous flow through at least one orifice or nozzle under pressure. The flow is disturbed, causing it to disperse into droplets at a fixed distance from the orifice. At the point of dispersion, the droplets are charged according to the digital data signal and pass through an elect...
