Abstract

The invention provides a method and a device for forwarding a multicast message, wherein the method is applied to an RRPP (Rapid Ring Protection Protocol) ring comprising a master node and at least one assistant node; and one of all nodes included in the RRPP ring is designated to be used for leading the multicast message to leave the upstream node of the RRPP ring. The method is characterized byincluding the following steps: A. the upstream node transmits a hello-multicast message carrying a designated unicast MAC (Media Access Control) address; and B. the assistant node on the RRPP ring records a port that receives the hello-multicast message, and when the assistant node as a multicast source transmits the multicast message to the multicast MAC address outside the RRPP ring, the recorded port transmits the multicast message to the upstream node.
