Abstract

The invention discloses an asynchronous point-to-point communication method which comprises steps as follows: an external controller hands data to be transmitted over to a data transmitting unit in a point-to-point protocol controller; the data transmitting unit carries out framing and check code calculation on the data to be transmitted; the data transmitting unit transmits the data through a serial bit stream, and a communication link management unit in the point-to-point protocol controller executes error control and flow control; a data receiving unit in the point-to-point protocol controller receives the serial bit stream, extracts the data from the received serial bit stream, and completes verification and frame structure analysis, and the communication link management unit executes error control and flow control; and the external controller reads the data from the point-to-point protocol controller. The invention also discloses a corresponding asynchronous point-to-point communication device which comprises an external controller and a point-to-point protocol controller based on hardware. The invention enhances the real-time performance and reliability of point-to-point communication.
