[0017] Latex particles can be prepared by any means known in the art. For example, latex particles can be formed when itaconic acid / anhydride and monoalcohols, monoepoxides and / or monoamines are polymerized. The synthesis of latex particles by emulsion polymerization is well known in the art and several procedures are outlined in US Patent No. 6,531,541, column 8, line 20 to column 9, line 32, an excerpt of which is incorporated herein by reference.
[0018] In certain embodiments, the coatings of the present invention may further comprise additional components, such as a class of components comprising ethylenic unsaturation. Examples of suitable compounds containing ethylenic unsaturation include, but are not limited to, (meth)acrylates, alkyl (meth)acrylates, (meth)acrylic acid, styrene, acrylonitrile, acrylamide, vinyl acetate Esters, and combinations thereof.
