[0017] Latex particles can be prepared by any means known in the art. For example, latex particles can be formed when itaconic acid / anhydride and monoalcohols, monoepoxides and / or monoamines are polymerized. The synthesis of latex particles by emulsion polymerization is well known in the art and several procedures are outlined in US Patent No. 6,531,541, column 8, line 20 to column 9, line 32, an excerpt of which is incorporated herein by reference.

Background of the invention [0002] Automakers have tried to reduce material costs in recent years, and one way of doing so is by using thinner gauge metal sheets for body panels and other components. While providing initial raw material cost savings, thinner gauge metals exhibit some drawbacks. Thinner metal has less impact strength and also has lower sound and vibration damping capabilities.
