Abstract

A system using cooperative communication with rateless codes is presented that uses communication transmission aspects of cooperative communication with rateless codes over Rayleigh fading channels and queuing aspects for buffering messages at intermediate relays. The system transmits a subsequent message while a current message is en route to the destination by receiving and buffering the current message in queues at intermediate relays. A relay with a best instantaneous communication link to the source may receive a message first and forward the received message to the destination. Alternatively, if inter-relay communication links are strong, all relays may cooperate simultaneously.

Description

[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS [0002] This application claims priority to a corresponding patent application filed in India on May 21, 2009 and having application number 1169 / CHE / 2009, the entire content of which is hereby incorporated by reference. Background technique [0003] Cooperative communication, in which different nodes in the network work together to send information from source to destination, reduces energy consumption and improves the reliability of data transmission in wireless networks. Various cooperative schemes have been proposed, such as cooperative beam-forming, distributed space-time codes, amplify and forward signaling, decoding and forwarding signaling, Dynamically decode and forward signaling, etc. [0004] Fountain codes, and rateless codes in general, have recently been shown to be well suited for cooperative relay networks. Rateless code transmission techniques produce coded symbols of information, such as coded bits, bytes or pa...
