[0063] Basic procedure for histamine work in Study #1 and Study #2

[0064] Dandruff subjects were identified by quantitative screening machine in two separate clinical studies; Study #1 and Study #2. Study #2 also included dandruff-free subjects, who were also assessed at baseline to establish normalized histamine levels (n=121).

[0065] Subjects washed with a regular, conditioner-free, non-dandruff shampoo for two weeks prior to treatment with the anti-dandruff shampoo. After three weeks of treatment with an anti-dandruff shampoo (shampoo composition containing zinc pyrithione), from among the highest exfoliation octads measured by the quantitative screening machine at the baseline follow-up Collect tape peel samples. Scalp tape strips were taken as baseline after three weeks of product treatment. The tape was stored at -80°C until extraction. Abstract

A method for measuring of histamine in an epidermis comprising applying an adhesive article to an epithelium of a mammal; allowing for adherence of epithelial cells to the adhesive article; removing the adhesive article from the epithelium of the mammal; preparing the adhesive article using standard laboratory methods for extraction; extracting histamine from the epithelial cells adhered to said adhesive article; measuring histamine from the epithelial cells adhered to said adhesive article; determining the amount of histamine in the epithelial cells as compared to a baseline sample. Further, a method of objectively measuring the perception of itch in mammals and wherein there is a reduction in histamine from a baseline level which is directly proportional to a reduction in an itch perception.

Background of the invention [0002] The severity of pruritus symptoms in scalp dermatitis has been assessed in the past.
