Abstract

This document describes techniques for scanning multiple carrier frequencies during a cell search procedure. The cell search procedure involves a number of processing steps arranged in series for the frequency being investigated until it will be determined that a network connection can be established on the frequency being investigated. A method embodiment of this technique includes performing a first processing step for a first frequency under investigation, and performing the first processing step for a second frequency under investigation in parallel with performing a second or additional processing step for the first frequency.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to cellular communication technology. Specifically, techniques are disclosed herein for scanning multiple carrier frequencies during a cell search procedure. Background technique [0002] When the cellular communication device is turned on (eg, after a flight), the device has no or little knowledge of what cellular networks may be available at the current station and on what frequencies. For this reason, the device initially performs a cell search procedure and scans for frequencies where it is possible to find a cellular network. During a frequency scan, multiple carrier frequencies in possibly multiple frequency bands are investigated as potential candidates for initiating the network access procedure. [0003] Due to the increase in the number of cellular telephones and other devices with cellular network access capabilities, the number of frequency bands used for cellular communications is steadily increasi...
