Embodiment

[0086] Exemplary measurement tests were performed, ultra-low (3 (µg / L)) PAO concentration test. The study showed that at industry typical concentrations (10mg / m 3 (µg / L) or greater) and ultra-low concentrations of PAO to test ePTFE filters to detect leaks and determine their scale equivalence and utility.

[0087] A conventional test method (which uses a photometer and ≥10 mg / m 3 (µg / L) PAO test) as an indication of the size defects generated in the ePTFE filter. This result was directly compared to an alternative test method involving the use of a discrete particle counter (DPC) and an ultra-low reduced (3 (µg / L)) PAO test concentration. The test is performed by creating twelve defects in the HEPA filter of the LFH (Laminar Flow Hood). Then use two methods to obtain comparative test data. The test structure is represented in Figure 13 middle.

[0088] An X-Y axis linear bearing sample probe positioning device was placed in front of the LFH as a means of removing sampling...

Abstract

A HEPA filter utilizing a spunbond scrim material and ePTFE membrane is provided for installation and testing in sterile pharmaceutical filtration air handling systems. The installation and test configuration includes an ePTFE filter with a low or ultra-low concentration of test aerosol on the upstream side of the filter, and a scanning device to measure the upstream concentration, all in situ in the pharmaceutical air handling system. On the downstream side of the ePTFE filter is another scanner, which can be a discrete particle scanner, used to calculate the penetration percentage of ultra-low concentration aerosols passing through the filter media. The system and configuration allow exposure to ePTFE filter media to be tested by low or ultra-low concentrations of oil-based test compounds.

Description

[0001] Related Application Cross Reference [0002] This International Patent Application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 61 / 411,279, filed November 08, 2010. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to ePTFE HEPA air filter media for sterile pharmaceutical applications and hair treatment devices and their testing with ultra-low concentrations of challenge aerosols. Background of the invention [0004] In most sterile pharmaceutical cleanrooms, the final step in removing airborne particles is performed in a HEPA or ULPA filter, which passes the air into the controlled space. The ability of a cleanroom to achieve and maintain its designed cleanliness depends primarily on the performance of these filters. Therefore, it is common and good practice to test the performance of all filters installed in a cleanroom to ensure they meet design specifications. Filters are typically tested for overall efficiency and leakage after manufactu...
