Problems solved by technology

One issue that should be considered is the synchronization of data (e.g. PNR data) shared between different platforms in read and write mode and between communication protocols (e.g. TPF mainframe and open systems) so that systems can share the same Latest PNR Environmental Data

Embodiment Construction

[0015] The example on which this part of the description is based is the migration from a complex TPF architecture for a reservation system to an open system architecture. As mentioned above, migrating in a single move is not advisable for a number of reasons. Therefore, for a transition period (which may last months or years), the reservation system is distributed among the mainframes of the IBC, E.G.TPF or MVS systems and open platforms such as Unix or Linux systems. The reservation system can be implemented eg on the Amadeus architecture. However, the invention is applicable to any implementation of a reservation system that works across multiple servers with different platforms.

[0016] In the example of migration from mainframe to open platform, on the TPF mainframe, the PNR application shares the same PNR environment in memory and can access data directly via the API in read and / or write mode. Due to the rebuilding of the TPF and the migration of the PNR application o...

Abstract

A method and a system according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention allow synchronizing the PNR values across a multi-server (possibly multi-platform) reservation system with an efficient and consistent mechanism. The mechanism solves the consistency and performance issues thanks to the versioning and the lazy behaviour (the synchronization occurs only when required) of the mechanism. The mechanism can be used as a solution during a migration phase from one system to another with progressive migration of applications sharing data, and also as a permanent solution for distributed applications across different platforms. According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, reservation services are distributed between two different platforms (e.g. main frame and open platforms) which require sharing the same Passenger Name Record (PNR) contextual data in a read and write mode to perform business functionalities. The method and the system of a preferred embodiment of the present invention allows the synchronization of data (e.g. PNR data) which are shared in a read and write mode across different platforms and across protocols of communication (e.g. TPF mainframe and open systems) so that the systems can share the same up-to-date PNR context data.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the field of travel reservation systems, and more particularly to a method and system for processing travel reservations on multiple servers using a synchronization mechanism in a distributed environment. Background technique [0002] Modern travel companies (eg, airlines) typically employ complex applications for processing booking requests from customers. It is increasingly common to have multiple architectures used across corporate systems. In such cases, compatibility and synchronization issues should be considered when designing and planning the reservation system. An example is where part of the reservation management is performed on an Internet-based application or communication facility. Another example is where a system (not necessarily a reservation system) must be migrated from a legacy mainframe system (eg, TPF) to a new system (eg, open system). We refer to this latter instance as decommissioning, ie whe...
