Embodiment Construction

[0018] figure 1 The illustration shows a block diagram of a system in which a mobile platform 150 acquires navigation assistance information based on a visual beacon (VB) 10 illustrated in the form of a QR code. The acquired navigation assistance information may include the position of VB10, and thus mobile platform 150, relative to a local or global coordinate system (eg, WGS84 coordinate system). Navigation aid information may instead or additionally contain information relative to neighboring visual beacons, wireless positioning resources or nearby ranging sources, user context, environmental context, and / or any other information desired to be associated with the VB.

[0019] Such as figure 1 As illustrated in , mobile platform 150 observes VB10, for example by imaging VB10. Navigation aid information associated with VB 10 is stored in visual beacon database VB database 125 . Mobile platform 150 accesses VB database 125 by generating a visual beacon identifier (VBID), ...

Abstract

A visual beacon, such as a Quick Response (QR) code or other type of artificial visual beacon is identified based on a coarse position and content information, and optionally, type of the visual beacon. For example, position may be based on latitude and longitude, e.g., from a satellite positioning system, or the Cell ID from a cellular network. The content information may be based on a sampling of the content before or after decoding. Content information may alternatively be all of the decoded content or an image of the visual beacon. Thus, for example, a mobile platform may generate a visual beacon identifier using the position and content information, which is transmitted to a navigation assistance server. The server can access and transmit to the mobile platform a navigation assistance message associated with the visual beacon identifier. If no visual beacon identifier is found, the server may enter the information.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to US Patent Application Serial No. 13 / 219,350, filed August 26, 2011, which is assigned to the present assignee and is hereby incorporated by application in its entirety. Background technique [0003] The use of accurate location information for mobile platforms, such as cellular or other wireless communication devices, is becoming commonplace in the communications industry. Satellite Positioning Systems (SPS), such as the Global Positioning System, bring about a method of providing location determination for wireless mobile platforms. SPS users can derive precise navigation information including three-dimensional position, velocity, and time of day from information obtained from satellites (SV) in orbit around the Earth. The signal received from SV is usually weak. Therefore, in order to determine the position of the mobile platform, the SPS receiver must be sensitive enough to recei...
