Abstract

Method for determining the amount of fuel leaving a direct-injection diesel engine injector, said amount of fuel being supplied to a cylinder of said engine in which there moves a piston, the injection of fuel being performed by a pilot injection during which a first amount of fuel is injected into the cylinder followed by a main injection during which a second amount of fuel, greater than the first amount of fuel, is injected into the cylinder, said method involving the following steps: a) operating the engine at low idle, b) determining the maximum pressure in the cylinder, and c) determining, from said maximum pressure, the amount of fuel injected into the cylinder during the pilot injection, using a predefined one-to-one relationship, at low idle speed, between a value of the maximum pressure in the cylinder and a quantity of fuel injected into the cylinder during the pilot injection.
