Abstract

The present invention is a hydrogen generator (10) having a liquid reservoir (24), a reaction zone (22), a by-product containment zone (26) and a hydrogen containment zone (28) within a housing (12). Liquid from the reservoir can react in the reaction zone to produce hydrogen gas and by-products that flow to the by-product containment zone, and the hydrogen gas enters the hydrogen containment zone (28) and exits the housing through the hydrogen outlet (38) as needed freed. The liquid reservoir and the reaction zone are each within a container (18, 20) made of a liquid-impermeable material, and the by-product containment zone is within a flexible container (16) made of a hydrogen-permeable, liquid-impermeable material , and the hydrogen containment zone is within a flexible container (14) made of a material impermeable to hydrogen.
