Problems solved by technology

However, it was found that a gradual and non-uniform change in color often occurs when PPE-TPE compositions are in contact with copper pennies while being exposed to warm and humid conditions (simulating typical storage conditions in a pocket, purse, backpack, or briefcase) , forming complexes with undesired staining

Embodiment approach

[0344] The present invention includes the following embodiments.

Embodiment approach 1

[0345] Embodiment 1. A polymer composition comprising:

[0346] (a) 10 to 45% by weight polyphenylene ether;

[0347] (b) 5 to 65% by weight of hydrogenated block copolymers of alkenyl aromatic compounds and conjugated dienes;

[0348] (c) 0 to 20 wt% polybutene;

[0349] (d) 2 to 60 wt% flame retardant;

[0350] (e) 0.1 to 20 wt% of an anti-UV agent, wherein the agent comprises triaryl-1,3,5-triazine;

[0351] (f) 0 to 50 wt% of ethylene and C 3 -C 12 Copolymers of alpha-olefins; and

[0352] (g) 0 to 30% by weight polyolefin homopolymer,

[0353] wherein the polymer composition does not contain a benzotriazole-type UV absorber, wherein all weight percentages are based on the total weight of the composition, and

[0354] And wherein the article prepared from said composition has the following properties:

[0355] (i) is substantially free from defects;

[0356] (ii) exhibits a CIELAB color shift (ΔE) of 3 or less after heat exposure at 75°C for 168 hours; and

[035...

Embodiment approach 2

[0358] Embodiment 2. The composition of embodiment 1, wherein the anti-UV agent comprises a triaryl-1,3,5-triazine together with (i) a cycloaliphatic epoxide or a hindered amine light stabilizer; or (ii) Combination of cycloaliphatic epoxide and hindered amine light stabilizer.

Abstract

Polymer compositions comprising specified amounts of polyphenylene ethers, hydrogenated block copolymers of alkenyl aromatic compounds and conjugated dienes, flame retardants, and UV resistant compounds including triaryl-1,3,5-triazines reagent. Optional components include polybutene, copolymers of ethylene and C3-C12 alpha-olefins, and polyolefin homopolymers. Articles formed from the compositions are resistant to staining by metallic copper, and they are relatively color stable when exposed to heat and xenon arc radiation.

Description

Background technique [0001] Color is an important consideration when designing products for the consumer electronics industry. Computers and computer accessories are sold in matching colors, whereby the color of the computer case usually matches the color of the monitor case and accessory cable case. Computers housed in lightly colored cases are preferred by some consumers, so there has always been an incentive to design computer cases and accessories that would retain their original color. The same is true for small electronic devices such as handheld devices such as mobile phones. When not in use, small devices are often stored with coins in a pocket, purse, backpack, or briefcase. These lightly colored devices may undergo a gradual and uneven color change (staining) when in contact with coins such as American Copper Pennies. Such color changes are visually unappealing to consumers. [0002] US 7,576,150 and 7,585,906 disclose light colored composites of polyphenylene et...
