The method includes: performing periodic measurement on a serving cell, and acquiring a previous signal measured value and a current signal measured value of the serving cell; obtaining a current signal cumulative difference of the serving cell using a signal measurement difference between the previous signal measured value and the current signal measured value; and comparing the current signal cumulative difference with a signal cumulative difference threshold, and adjusting the measurement period of a neighbouring cell according to the comparison result, wherein the current signal cumulative difference is an algebraic sum of signal measurement differences corresponding to the serving cell. At the same time, also disclosed is a device for adaptive adjustment of the measurement period of a neighbouring cell.
