High data rate smart sensor technology

A device for the high-speed analysis of photon- or particle-generated image data or for the high-speed energy-discrimination analysis of photon- or particle-counting data. The device uses a sensor that collects the photons or particles on an array of solid state detectors, as electrical analog signals, and stores the analog-signal information on capacitors of readout arrays associated with the detector arrays. Integration of the photon or particle flux signals on the readout arrays proceeds for a given time frame and then image-related signals are transferred to an analog correction processor. The analog correction processor is comprised of one or more integrated circuit chips where each chip contains an array of correction processor unit cells. In these unit cells signals are corrected, in parallel, for gain and offset nonuniformities in the detection and processing chain. Corrections to all the signals are made in a time frame or less and the information is then transferred to an analog image processor. Particle-counting data is transferred directly from the readout array chips to the analog image processor. The analog image processor is comprised of one or more integrated circuit chips where each chip is made up of an array of image processor unit cells. Each unit cell contains circuitry for implementing an image processing or energy discrimination algorithm, and circuitry for outputting the signals and / or the position of only those unit cells for which the algorithm is satisfied. The analog image processor chip may also contain circuitry that counts the number of cells for which the algorithms have been satisfied. The analog image processor implements the algorithm and outputs the data in a time frame or less.

Whole blood preparation for cytometric analysis of cell signaling pathways

This invention is directed to a method for preparation of a biological sample for measurement of protein epitopes that allows for the preservation of intracellular protein epitopes and detection of signal transduction pathways based on the ability to capture transient activation states of the epitopes. The method provided by the invention allows for the rapid fixation of biological samples containing red blood cells, to ensure that epitopes of signal transduction molecules and other intracellular protein epitopes are preserved in the active state. The method of the invention further allows for lysis of red blood cells, thereby making it a useful method for cytometric analysis of biological samples, including, for example, whole blood, bone marrow aspirates, peritoneal fluids, and other red blood cell containing samples. The invention also provides a method to recover or “unmask” epitopes on intracellular antigens that have been made inaccessible by the cross linking fixative necessary to fix the sample. Significantly, the methods of the invention allow preservation and analysis of phospho-epitope levels in biological samples taken directly from patients to determine disease-specific characteristics.

Neighbor effect cancellation in memory array architecture

Non-volatile memory (NVM) cells are sensed using a forced neighbor signal to eliminate improper readings generated by a neighbor effect. A selected NVM cell is sensed using a near-ground signal by applying a potential to a first terminal, coupling a second terminal to ground, and then decoupling the second terminal and comparing the resulting cell signal with a reference signal as both signals are developing (i.e., increasing from ground). A forced neighbor signal is applied to one more neighboring cells such that as the sensed cell signal develops (increases from ground), the forced neighbor signal develops at a similar rate, thereby maintaining a voltage across the neighboring cells close to zero and thus preventing leakage of the sensed cell signal through the neighbor cell(s). A dc sensing approach utilizes a current source and grounded resistor to minimize leakage through the neighbor cell(s).

Disclosed herein is a method which allows the cell phone operator to download traffic information on the operators cell phone display with a minimum of keystrokes. The cell phone can have a option mode, voice activation or a sequence of keystrokes programmed within the cell or mobile phone to facilitate access of the cell or mobile phone to regional traffic information. This is accomplished by the cell or mobile phone service provider procuring traffic information and data from traffic information provided by an entity such as Traffic Pulse. Alternately the cell phone service provider can make internet access to a traffic information provider directly to the operator of the cell phone. Besides having to first access the internet from a cell phone, and then second navigate to a traffic information website, an operator must provide location information, such as current position through zip code, address, or longitudinal and latitudinal coordination. Cell and mobile phone technology already has the function to monitor the locations of a cell or mobile phone to access various cell phone transmitting and receiving towers in close proximity to the cell or mobile phone. This is accomplished by one example known as triangulation measurement or hyperbolic multi-lateration positioning of cell signals between cell towers or through GPS technology incorporated in the cell or mobile phone. Therefore, the use of current location information of a cell phone acquiring regional traffic data does not need to this information be input, using keystrokes on the cell phone keyboard, or by voice annunciations by the cell phone operator.
