Abstract

This invention relates to a microtome comprising a blade and a sample holder for a sample, wherein the sample holder can be adjusted in relation to the blade, and a protective device for the blade, which can be adjusted between a protective position at least partly covering the blade and an exposure position exposing the blade. Condition parameters of the microtome are detected by means of a sensor and evaluated in a control device. The protective device is assigned a drive device, by means of which the protective device can at least be moved out of the exposure position into the protective position, wherein the drive device can be driven by the control device on the basis of at least one condition parameter of the microtome.
