Problems solved by technology

The Joint Video Coding Task Force JCT-VC also considers the issues resulting from proposed techniques for High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), where implementations of this standard are scaled to work at high resolution in real time or at high frame rates create difficult implementation challenges
One implementation challenge is the complexity and size of the logic used to support the multiple "transform" sizes used to transform video data between the frequency and spatial domains

[0056] figure 1 is a schematic block diagram illustrating the functional modules of a video encoding and decoding system 100 that can utilize techniques for encoding syntax elements representing an inferred sub-partition that sub-partitions a transform unit for a chroma channel into multiple transforms. System 100 includes source device 110 and destination device 130 . Communication channel 120 is used to communicate encoded video information from source device 110 to destination device 130 . In some cases, source device 110 and destination device 130 may each comprise a mobile telephone handset, wherein in this case communication channel 120 is a wireless channel. In other cases, source device 110 and destination de...

Abstract

A method for decoding a transform unit comprising at least one array of chroma residual coefficients associated with a chroma channel from a video bitstream is disclosed. The method determines a size of the transform unit in relation to the level of the transform unit in the corresponding coding unit, and identifies a maximum number of inverse transforms based on the determined size. The method decodes at least one array of chroma residual coefficients from a video bitstream using the largest number of identified transforms, selecting an inverse transform for the decoded array of chroma residual coefficients, wherein the inverse transform is a predetermined one from the inverse transform set, and apply the selected inverse transform to each array of chroma residual coefficients to decode the chroma residual samples for the chroma channel of the transform unit. Similar encoding methods are also disclosed.

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application claims priority to Australian Patent Application 2012232992 filed 28 September 2012, which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety as if fully set forth herein. technical field [0003] The present invention relates generally to digital video signal processing, and more particularly to methods, devices and systems for encoding and decoding residual coefficients of transform units (TUs) comprising one or more transform units (TUs) ) and may be configured for multiple chroma formats including 4:2:2 chroma formats. Background technique [0004] There are currently many applications for video encoding including applications for transmitting and storing video data. A number of video coding standards have also been developed and others are currently under development. Recent advances in video coding standardization have led to the formation of a group known as the "Joint Team on Video Coding" (...
