Abstract

This ultraviolet light emitting device (1) comprises: a light emitting body (3) which is disposed upon a substrate (2); an optical system (4) which is disposed in a location opposite the light emitting body (3); a metallic cylinder (5) which retains the optical system (4); and a retaining member (5) which retains the metallic cylinder (5) upon the substrate (2). The light emitting body (3) has a configuration of being positioned upon the substrate (2) in a region which the end part of the metallic cylinder (5) on the side of the substrate (2) encloses. Thus, an ultraviolet light emitting device (1) is implemented whereby warping of the optical system can be avoided and an effect which ultraviolet light has upon the retaining member (6) can be avoided.
