The method comprises a step of system decomposition in which the engine cooling system is decomposed into a part model library, wherein the part model library comprises an engine model, a cooler model, a thermostat model and a water pump model, and the thermostat model has delay and hysteresis features, a step of system modeling in which a mechanical system rotation interface model, a cooling liquid loop system interface model and an air end interface model are adopted to connect the engine model, the cooler model, the thermostat model and the water pump model to form a mechanical system, a cooling liquid loop system and an air end system, and a step of simulation control. Simulation of the engine cooling system model is well consistent with the actual engine cooling system.
