Abstract

A power supply comprising two or more input waveforms shaped or selected so that when individually level shifted and rectified, their sum results in a substantially ripple-free DC output waveform. The power supply contains a waveform generator, level translation stages for step-up or step-down conversion, a rectification stage, and a synthesizer. The waveform generator can generate complementary waveforms, preferably identical but phase shifted from each other, so that after level shifting, rectifying and summing the complementary waveforms, their sum will be constant, so that the generation of the DC output waveform does not require smoothing or only a minimum smooth. Level shifting can be performed using a transformer or a switched capacitor circuit. Feedback from the thus DC output waveform can be used to adjust the characteristics of the input waveform.
