[0062] figure 1 An example of a complete sensor 1 according to one embodiment of the invention is shown, having a skin-friendly and moisture-resistant electrically insulating outer layer 2, wherein the through outer layer 2 and the first non-liquid-absorbing insulating layer (dielectric) are indicated 9( figure 1 (not shown in ) provides electrical access from the outside to the first electrode 7 for capacitive liquid detection. The outer layer 2 may, for example, consist of a plastic film.

[0063] figure 2 The same sensor 1 is shown from the rear side, covered by a rear layer 3, wherein an opening through the rear layer 3 provides electrical access to a second and innermost electrode 4 for capacitive liquid sensing, And wherein through two other openings of the rear side layer 3 and the second non-hygroscopic insulating layer (dielectric) 5 ( figure 2 ) provides electrical access to the first 6 and second 8 electrodes for capacitive stool detection. The rear side laye...

Abstract

A system is disclosed for measuring and recording a quantity of liquid in an absorbing material (16), such as the quantity of urine in a nappy, which system comprises a sensor (1) comprising a first pair of electrodes (4, 7) for measuring the quantity of liquid, which first pair of electrodes is arranged to be placed around the absorbing material in, for example, a nappy, and a data logger (10), which is arranged to apply an alternating voltage across the first pair of electrodes and, concurrently herewith, to measure the capacitance between the two electrodes of the first pair of electrodes and to calculate, based on the measured capacitance, an estimate of the quantity of liquid in the absorbing material. In an embodiment, the system further comprises a second pair of electrodes (6, 8) for estimating the presence of a substance, such as faeces, there between using a similar method.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to systems for measuring the amount of urine in an absorbent material, and in some embodiments, detecting the presence of feces, such as in diapers, where one or more capacitive sensors are used to determine the fullness of liquid in an absorbent material. level and detect the presence of feces. Background technique [0002] Alarms for use in measuring the presence of urine in diapers, underwear and sheets are known in the prior art in the form of various enuresis and incontinence products. Urine sensors in diapers are known in the prior art, but not for measuring faeces. [0003] Traditional products are characterized in that they sound an alarm as soon as liquid is present on the sensor, a so-called instant alarm. These products typically work by measuring resistance across the sensor, under normal conditions (when the diaper is dry) no current flows between the electrodes in the sensor. In the event of an alarm, the ...
