The method comprises the following steps: selecting 10 types of cigarette fragrant and sweet characteristic substances with representativeness from aroma components of cut tobaccos; calculating to find out characteristic substances with positive influences and negative influences on fragrant and sweet aroma respectively, and determining weights of characteristic substance indexes according to influence degrees; carrying out determination and analysis on the aroma components of the cut tobaccos of the finished-product cigarettes by adopting a Simultaneous Distillation and Extraction-Gas Chromatography / Mass Spectrograph for Determination of Aroma Components of Tobaccos and Tobacco Products; and finally, calculating a fragrant and sweet aroma index SWI of the finished-product cigarettes by adopting a weighting counting method. The index can be used for directly characterizing the intensity of the fragrant and sweet aroma characteristics of the cigarettes and has an objective and accurate evaluation result.
