Embodiment Construction

[0013] figure 1 A schematic cross-sectional view through a part of a fuel pump 10 according to a preferred exemplary embodiment of the present invention is shown.

[0014] figure 1 The fuel pump 10 includes a pump cylinder 11 and a pump piston 12 movably fitted in the pump cylinder 11 . The pump piston 12 can move back and forth in the pump cylinder 11 through the control of the cam 13 . Through this displacement of the pump piston 12 in the pump cylinder 11, fuel is sucked in and delivered in the direction of the consumer.

[0015] The pump piston 12 comprises a hollow space 14 for a coolant, via which hollow space internal cooling of the pump piston 12 is possible. Coolant can be fed to the hollow space 14 of the pump piston 12 via the inlet 15 . Coolant can exit the hollow space 14 via an outlet 16 .

[0016] In the context of the invention, both the inlet 15 of the hollow space 14 for the coolant and the outlet 16 of the hollow space 14 for the coolant are permanently...

Abstract

A fuel pump (10) has a pump piston (12) movably mounted in a pump cylinder (11), wherein the pump piston (12) has a hollow space (14) with an inlet (15) and an outlet (16); a coolant flows through the interior of the pump piston (12) and for cooling; the inlet (15) for the coolant and the outlet (16) for the coolant are independent of the position of the piston pump (12) in the pump cylinder (11) and open always from the pump cylinder (11), thus the coolant can permanently flow and pass through the inlet and the outlet, so that the hollow space (14) of the piston pump (12) can be passes through by the coolant permanently, that is the following mode is employed: the inlet (15) for the coolant and the outlet (16) for the coolant are independent of the position of the pump piston (12) and are positioned out of a guiding region (17) formed by the pump cylinder for the pump piston (12), so that an annular gap (18) between the pump cylinder (11) and the pump piston (12) has no coolant forever.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a fuel pump, in particular a high pressure pump for a common rail fuel system according to the preamble of claim 1 . Background technique [0002] Fuel pumps known from practice comprise a pump cylinder, a pump piston movably mounted in the pump cylinder. A pump piston is reciprocated in a pump cylinder via one or more cams, whereby fuel is sucked in by the fuel pump and fed to a consumer, such as an injection valve of a fuel system. [0003] Fuel pumps known in practice comprise one or more grooves in the region of the pump cylinder in which the pump piston is movably fitted, in order to drain any fuel leakage occurring between the pump cylinder and the pump piston into the fuel system or leak circuit. Specifically when fuel pumps are used in fuel systems that operate with heavy fuel oil, fuel deposits called pitching can form in the guide area between the pump piston and the pump cylinder, which blocks the flow between the ...
