Embodiment Construction

[0035] First reference figure 1 , The figure shows a system for introducing (infusing) fluid according to the present invention, and the overall designation is 10. As shown, the system 10 includes a catheter 12 that can be advanced into a vessel 14 to position the catheter 12 at a predetermined location in the patient's vasculature (not shown). For the purpose of the present invention, the vessel 14 is preferably an artery or vein in a patient's cardiovascular system, and the system 10 is used for intra-arterial, intravenous or intra-coronary regimens.

[0036] Explain in detail, figure 1 It is shown that the system 10 includes a source 16 for holding a fluid medium 18. Also like figure 1 As shown in, a plurality of particles 20 are suspended in a fluid medium 18 in order to produce a particle / fluid medium 22. For the present invention, the particles 20 may be some form of medicine or, most likely, they will be some form of biological agent (ie, cells, genes or proteins). In an...

Abstract

A system for mobilizing particles suspended in a first fluid and for infusing them into a stream of a second fluid includes a catheter having a multi-lumen distal separator. The separator is formed with a plurality of parallel lumens each having a predetermined diameter to reduce flocculation of particles. An inflatable balloon attached to the exterior of the catheter can be provided to regulate the flow of the second fluid to facilitate entry of particles into the flow of the second fluid. The strengthening member is used to strengthen the catheter wall under the inflatable balloon. With this structure, the catheter will not kink or collapse due to the pressure exerted on the catheter when the balloon is inflated. In one embodiment, the reinforcing member comprises an annular ring. In another embodiment, a separator is positioned below the balloon and acts as a stiffening member.

Description

[0001] This application is a partial continuation of patent application No. 13 / 473,988. The application date of this patent application No. 13 / 473,988 is May 17, 2012. It is a partial continuation of patent application No. 12 / 563,876. The patent application No. The filing date of .12 / 563,876 is September 21, 2009, and these two patent applications are currently pending. The contents of Patent Application No. 13 / 473,988 and Patent Application No. 12 / 563,876 are all incorporated herein by reference. Technical field [0002] The present invention generally relates to an infusion system for introducing particles into a fluid stream. More particularly, the present invention relates to an infusion system for introducing (infusing) particles of biological material (for example, stem cells) into the vasculature of a patient without reducing the therapeutic effect of the biological material. The invention is particularly but not limited to be used as a system using a multi-lumen filter t...
