Abstract

The present invention relates to a gear shift system comprising: a gearbox having a shift shaft (1) to which a shift actuation lever (2) is connected; a transmission mechanism for transferring shift commands from a shift lever to the shift shaft including a cable or rod connected with one of its ends to the shift lever and with its other end to a linkage comprising at least two actuating members including an input actuating member (4) which is moved in response to shift lever movements transmitted by the cable or rod, and the shift actuation lever; a servo mechanism (20) connected to the shift shaft to assist in turning the shift shaft; a servo valve arrangement (22) for controlling the servo mechanism responsive to the relative positioning between the position of the input actuating member (4; 34) and position of the shift actuation lever (2) dictated by the input actuating member; a detent mechanism including a spring biased detent plunger (14) and a detent track (16) for providing a perceptible feedback of a shift operation to the shift lever; characterized in that the detent mechanism is acting between (i) the input actuating member (4) or a component that is linked to the input actuating member such that it follows its movements, and (ii) the shift actuation lever (2) or a component that is linked to the shift actuation lever such that it follows its turning movements, so that the detent plunger (14) reaching a central valley (18) of the detent track (16) indicates that the shift shaft (1) has reached its neutral or in-gear position as dictated by the input actuating member (4).
