A family of new bicycle shifting systems incorporate improved derailleur designs that are controlled by sealed hydraulic actuators. The shifting systems (i) a hydraulically-actuated, manually-powered front and rear derailleur shifting system, (ii) a hydraulically-actuated, power-assisted front and rear derailleur shifting system with manual control, and (iii) a hydraulically-actuated, power-assisted front and rear derailleur shifting system in which the shifting sequence for the rear derailleur is controlled automatically by pedal speed. The method comprises the steps of firstly, determining that a battery is in a dischargeable state or a rechargeable state according to SOC (state of charge) of the battery, torque required by a driver and the state of the vehicle; secondly, determining a possible gear at a certain speed under the two conditions and the torque and rotational speed of an engine corresponding to each gear; and finally, determining a target gear under the condition of a minimum fuel consumption rate of the engine and determining whether to perform shift operation according to the time interval between two times of shift. The method has the advantages that in determining the state of the battery, the problem that the state of the battery is repetitively changed due to jump of the SOC is avoided by adopting the comprehensive judgment of values of the SOC (state of charge) of the battery, the torque required by the driver and the state of the vehicle; in determining the target gear, the target gear is determined from all possible gears under the condition of the minimum fuel consumption rate of the engine, and the fuel consumption at the target gear is guaranteed to be minimum; and whether to perform shift operation is determined according to the time interval between two times of shift, and thus frequent shift is avoided.

Control of nitrogen fraction in a flow shifting fuel cell system

A device and method to predict and regulate nitrogen concentration in a flow shifting system. In one aspect of the system, a bleed valve fluidly coupled to multiple fuel cell stacks is used to reduce the presence of nitrogen in an anode flowpath. One or more sensors can be used to measure voltage within one or both of the fuel cell stacks. By assessing fuel cell voltage changes within the anode flowpath and equating such changes with nitrogen fraction buildup, the system can manipulate the bleed valve at appropriate times to improve system operability. In one form of equating the sensed voltage changes with the nitrogen fraction buildup, a predictive algorithm can be used by a logic device in a controller to compare the sensed voltage so that the controller instructs the bleed valve when to open and close. In a variation, the controller can compare the sensed voltages against stored data rather than rely on a formula or related algorithm.
