197 results about "Down shifting" patented technology

In practice, down-shifting involves a variety of behavioral and lifestyle changes. The majority of these down-shifts are voluntary choices. Natural life course events, such as the loss of a job, or birth of a child can prompt involuntary down-shifting. There is also a temporal dimension, because a down-shift could be either temporary or permanent.

Variable radius continuously variable transmission

An improved variable radius chain or belt transmission is provided for bicycle, motorcycle, automobile, industrial, household and consumer product uses. It delivers power and shifts under power through a continuously variable range of ratios. Alternative means are disclosed: for properly engaging the chain or belt regardless of drive radius; for handing off the workload of the chain or belt even while the drive's effective radius is changing; for minimizing the force required to expand a drive under chain or belt; for supporting the chain or belt attachment points in radially variable manner; for circumferentially bridging the spans between radial attachment points; for coordinating the radial movement of the attachment points within one drive; for actuating up-shifting or down-shifting processes in forward or reverse; and for simultaneously varying the effective radii of input and output drives in coordinated fashion.

Downshift control for automotive automatic transmission

ActiveUS20060040791A1Eliminate and alleviate problemElectrical controlGearing controlAutomatic transmissionDown shifting
An automotive automatic transmission control apparatus is provided which works to increase the power of an engine in response to a request to down-shift the gear of an automatic transmission for developing the engine braking. The control apparatus includes a fail-safe circuit working to stop increasing the power of the engine when a defect in operation of a transmission hydraulic control circuit is detected after the hydraulic control circuit starts to control the hydraulic pressures to achieve the downshift of the automatic transmission. This eliminates or alleviates a problem, such as unwanted acceleration of the vehicle during the control of the downshift in the transmission.

Controller for automatic transmission

In performing a down-shift based on a driver's intention of deceleration, an engine output increasing control is started at a time when a transfer torque capacity of the releasing clutch becomes small or zero and the actual oil pressure decreases to an initial oil pressure, not causing an acceleration feeling even upon the engine output increase. For estimating a time when which the real pressure of the releasing clutch decreases to a level of not higher than the initial pressure, the response of the real pressure relative to an oil pressure command value for the releasing clutch is approximated using a transfer characteristic of “first order lag+time delay.” An estimated real oil pressure obtained based on the transfer characteristic is compared with the initial pressure. It is determined a start timing of the engine output increasing control has been reached upon decrease of the estimated pressure to the initial pressure.

The present invention provides a control device for a vehicular drive apparatus with a structure of enabling the suppression of gearshift shock occurring during concurrent shifting executed of a first shifting portion and a second shifting portion. When the concurrent shifting are executed around the same time in which a down shift in one of a differential portion (first shifting portion) and an automatic shifting portion (second shifting portion) and an upshift in the other of them are executed, a first electric motor is caused to control a rotation speed of a second rotary element (sun gear). Thus, a shifting progress state upon the concurrent shifting is controlled. This causes shifting directions i.e., variation of the engine rotation speed in shifting of a shifting mechanism to be set in a unidirectional, enabling the suppression of gearshift shock.

Control device for continuously variable transmission

Safety as well as the minimum driving performance is secured by preventing abrupt down-shifting if a line pressure valve or a primary pressure control valve fails. A line pressure path connected to an oil pump is connected with a line pressure control valve. A first primary pressure path branched from the line pressure path is connected with a hydraulic fluid chamber through a fail-safe valve, and a secondary pressure path branched from the line pressure path is connected to a hydraulic fluid chamber. The line pressure control valve is connected with a second primary pressure path in communication with a hydraulic fluid chamber, and this secondary primary pressure path is provided with a primary pressure control valve and a limiter valve. When the line pressure control valve and the primary pressure control valve fail and excess line pressure or primary pressure is output, the pressure in the hydraulic fluid chamber is reduced by the fail-safe valve, so that the pressure in the hydraulic fluid chamber is reduced by the limiter valve.

Method and Arrangement For Adapting Shifting Strategies in a Heavy Vehicle Including an Automated Transmission and Experiencing a Pto Load

Method and arrangement for adjusting shift characteristics of a transmission of a heavy vehicle. A heavy vehicle is operated and that is powered by an internal combustion engine equipped with an automated manual transmission and a power take off. The power take off, when operating, imposes a torque-consuming load on the engine. Operation of the power take off is detected when the engine of the vehicle is in a power mode. At least one gear-shift event is adapted to occur at a higher engine speed when power take off operation is detected than when power take off operation is not detected. The gear-shift event is affected at an engine speed that is approximately five to twenty-five percent higher than when power take off operation is not detected. The gear-shift event may be an up-shift to a lower ratio gear engagement or a down-shift to a higher ratio gear engagement.

Tunable Down-Hole Stimulation System

Tunable down-hole stimulation systems feature closed-loop control of pumps and tunable down-hole stimulators. Stimulators generate and hydraulically transmit broad vibration spectra tuned for resonance excitation and fracturing of geologic materials adjacent to the wellbore. Feedback data for controlling stimulation includes backscatter vibration originating in stimulated geologic material and detected at the stimulator(s). For initial fracturing with relatively large particle sizes, the power spectral density (PSD) of each stimulator output is down-shifted toward the lower resonant frequencies of large particles. As fracturing proceeds to smaller (proppant-sized) fragments having higher resonant frequencies, backscatter vibration guides progressive up-shifting of stimulator PSD to higher vibration frequencies. Stimulator power requirements are minimized by concentrating vibration energy efficiently in frequency bands to which geologic materials are most sensitive at every stage of stimulation. Geologic fragmentation efficiency is thus optimized, with inherent potential for plain-water fracs completed with self-generated proppant.

Engine torque control during multiple speed changes of an automatic transmission

In a multiple speed-change operation for switching between an up-shift operation and a down-shift operation, engine torque control is adapted to an actual change in speed-change state, whereby an abrupt change in rotational speed of the input shaft is prevented. One embodiment relates to a speed-change operation from the second speed to the third speed, wherein the engagement-side hydraulic pressure B4 rises and the release-side hydraulic pressure B5 drops, the rotational speed NT of the input shaft changes from a second speed state toward a third speed state and the engine torque TE is reduced by a predetermined amount TCU. If a command to perform a speed-change operation from the third speed to the second speed is issued during the aforementioned speed-change operation from the second speed to the third speed, control of the hydraulic pressures is switched to the speed-change operation from the third speed to the second speed. If it is detected because of the hydraulic pressure control that the direction of the change omega in rotational speed of the input shaft has changed toward the second speed, it is determined that the speed-change operation has actually started. Then, the torque reduction operation is suspended, and the torque is gradually restored.
