An automotive automatic transmission control apparatus is provided which works to increase the power of an engine in response to a request to down-shift the gear of an automatic transmission for developing the engine braking. The control apparatus includes a fail-safe circuit working to stop increasing the power of the engine when a defect in operation of a transmission hydraulic control circuit is detected after the hydraulic control circuit starts to control the hydraulic pressures to achieve the downshift of the automatic transmission. This eliminates or alleviates a problem, such as unwanted acceleration of the vehicle during the control of the downshift in the transmission.

The invention is an automatic transmission shifting system for automobile, the automobile having a steering column assembly including a steering wheel at one end and steering column, and an electrical wire having first end terminating at the steering wheel and a second end terminating at least partially down the steering column. A system and method for managing the power of an engine-powered vehicle is provided. The power of the engine is managed in automatic vehicle speed mode by inputting the desired vehicle ground speed and a measured variable to an electronic controller, which automatically up-shifts the transmission and reduces engine speed to maintain a desired vehicle speed and reduce fuel consumption when a load on the vehicle is reduced and down-shifts the transmission and increases engine speed when the load is applied. The present invention provides a control device for a vehicular drive apparatus with a structure of enabling the suppression of gearshift shock occurring during concurrent shifting executed of a first shifting portion and a second shifting portion. When the concurrent shifting are executed around the same time in which a down shift in one of a differential portion (first shifting portion) and an automatic shifting portion (second shifting portion) and an upshift in the other of them are executed, a first electric motor is caused to control a rotation speed of a second rotary element (sun gear). An inline automatic/manual shifter is provided with a shift lever that moves in a straight line path to select one of a shift position. Method and arrangement for adjusting shift characteristics of a transmission of a heavy vehicle. A heavy vehicle is operated and that is powered by an internal combustion engine equipped with an automated manual transmission and a power take off. The power take off, when operating, imposes a torque-consuming load on the engine. Operation of the power take off is detected when the engine of the vehicle is in a power mode. At least one gear-shift event is adapted to occur at a higher engine speed when power take off operation is detected than when power take off operation is not detected. The gear-shift event is affected at an engine speed that is approximately five to twenty-five percent higher than when power take off operation is not detected. The gear-shift event may be an up-shift to a lower ratio gear engagement or a down-shift to a higher ratio gear engagement.
