A method for enhancing ground situational awareness to an aircraft operating at an airport is described. The method includes displaying, within the aircraft, runways and taxiways for the airport and displaying a position of the aircraft with respect to the runways and taxiway. A resolution of at least one of a runway, a taxiway, and an aircraft position is based on at least one of a selected resolution, a position and heading of the aircraft, a taxi speed, and a ground speed of the aircraft.

The apparatus is fitted with a GPS receiver feeding a data logger, and optical sensors that are placed adjacent seed or vegetation dispenser.. The data logger monitors GPS time and UTM coordinates, as well as the optical sensors. Ground speed and azimuth are also monitored. The seeds or vegetation are time-tagged as they are dispensed, and software is used to process the dispensing time and GPS location data and estimate the exact coordinates of each seed or plant and its distance from adjacent seeds or plants. As a result, a precise planting map is generated. The invention may also be used to determine the location to dispense seeds or vegetation, and activating the dispenser when that location is reached.

In one embodiment, a method of offloading data recorded on a flight recorder includes determining whether to enable a wireless transmitter and wirelessly transmitting previously stored data on the flight recorder via the wireless transmitter according to the determination. In one aspect, wireless transmission is determined by wireless parameters, such as weight on wheels, air speed, ground speed, engine speed, open compartments and sensed forces or other airplane parameters made available to the flight recorder. Wireless transmission may be initiated either manually or automatically.

A seed spacing monitoring system is used In an agricultural seeder for planting seeds. The agricultural seeder has a furrow opener, a seed meter for metering seed to be dispensed in the furrow, and a furrow closer to cover the seed in the furrow. The seed spacing monitoring system includes a detector supported to detect seeds in the furrow prior to the seeds being covered. The detector provides a plurality of seed presence signals, with each seed presence signal being indicative of a respective seed present in the furrow. A speed sensor is associated with the seeder and provides a speed signal indicating a ground speed of the seeder. An electrical processor receives the plurality of seed presence signals and the speed signal. The electrical processor determines a seed spacing, dependent upon the seed presence signals and the speed signal.

A system for controlling a grain combine having a rotor/cylinder, a sieve, a fan, a concave, a feeder, a header, an engine, and a control system. The feeder of the grain combine is engaged and the header is lowered. A separator loss target, engine load target, and a sieve loss target are selected. Grain is harvested with the lowered header passing the grain through the engaged feeder. Separator loss, sieve loss, engine load and ground speed of the grain combine are continuously monitored during the harvesting. If the monitored separator loss exceeds the selected separator loss target, the speed of the rotor/cylinder, the concave setting, the engine load target, or a combination thereof is adjusted. If the monitored sieve loss exceeds the selected sieve loss target, the speed of the fan, the size of the sieve openings, or the engine load target is adjusted.

An exemplary system on a host vehicle determines one or more first protection zones around other vehicles on the ground based on the received information about the other vehicles, determines a second protection zone around the host vehicle based on the stored information about the host vehicle and the sensor information and generates an alert, if any of the first protection zones occupies at least a portion of the same geographic area as the second protection zone. The received information includes position, ground speed, vehicle type information and heading or track information. The protection zones include a width dimension that is based on vehicle size information, a base length dimension that is based on the size information, and a variable component of the length dimension that is based on the ground speed.

A cutting system for plants includes opposed first cutting assemblies and opposed second cutting assemblies. The first cutting assemblies include a substantially vertical stack of cage type cutters and a lower cutter having stationary and rotating cutter members. The cage type cutters include an outer driven guard that moves the plants past the stationary cutters. Opener wheels have a diameter slightly greater than the cutters and engage posts and other objects to position the cutting assemblies and to prevent damage to the cutting assemblies and trellises. Side cutter assemblies are positioned forward of the vertical stack of first cutting assemblies and provide precision side cuts. The side cutters include stationary cutter members and rotating cutter members that provide a precise shearing action. The system rotational speed is controlled to maintain a speed proportional to the ground speed so that a substantially constant percentage of plant material is removed.
