Abstract

The application discloses: a) two-wall and four-wall container for lyophilizing, storing, and transfusing a blood component comprising a wall made from a porous polymer permeable to water vapor and resistant to liquid water; b) methods of lyophilising biological material including pre-evaporation step or step of killing bacteria with photosensitizer and light; c) a system (apparatus) for use in lyophilising biological material comprising two plates and the system of increasing or decreasing the space between them and d) a method of preparing blood component for lyophilisation including pre-evaporation and optionally disinfection.

Description

[0001] Cross references to related patent applications [0002] This application claims priority to: U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 009629, filed June 9, 2014, entitled "Lyophilization"; U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 010027; and U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 62 / 142146, filed April 2, 2015, entitled "Container for Lyophilization." The above three provisional patent applications are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety as if fully set forth herein. Background technique [0003] Lyophilization is a method used to preserve materials, including biological materials, food and pharmaceuticals, and increase their shelf life. Lyophilization is performed by first freezing the material to solidify it, then subjecting the material to a low pressure environment (less than atmospheric pressure) to allow the components of the material to sublimate. Typically, the aforementioned components are liquids at standard temperature and pressure, an ...
