Abstract

The present invention discloses an integrated force sensing element comprising a piezoelectric sensor formed in an integrated circuit IC chip and a strain gauge at least partially overlying the piezoelectric sensor, wherein the piezoelectric sensor is capable of bending. A human-machine interface using the integrated force-sensing element may include a conditioning circuit, a thermometer, FRAM, and a processor core.

Description

technical field [0001] The disclosed embodiments relate generally to the field of human machine interfaces (HMI). More specifically, and without any limitation, the present invention relates to an integrated force sensing element for use in an HMI. Background technique [0002] Resistive and capacitive touch screens were developed for LCD displays as a form of user interface, ie, a graphical interface. These touch screens are suitable for larger array applications, but are expensive to manufacture. Touchscreens are cost effective on a "per pixel" basis when the array is larger. However, for decentralized "button" applications, touch screens tend to be more expensive than mechanical buttons. Prior art HMIs suffer from the following limitations: [0003] ●The capacitive touch HMI detects an increase in the dielectric constant due to the water content in the human body. When wearing gloves, they often fail. False detection of passing water-containing or metallic objects c...
