Embodiment Construction

[0017] Aspects of the present invention are directed to sensors for determining and / or controlling chemical levels in a body of water. figure 1 is a block diagram of an exemplary system in which such a sensor may be implemented. figure 1 The system 100 includes a body of water 102, such as a pool or spa to be treated. The system may include a water pump 104 for circulating water through a water circulation circuit comprising various components of the system. For example, in the illustrated system 100 , the water pump 104 may circulate water from the body of water 102 through the filter 106 and heater 108 before returning the water to the body of water 102 . The body of water 102 is often treated with one or more chemicals, which may be stored in one or more chemical storage devices 112 and incorporated into the body of water 102 via one or more chemical pumps 114 . Exemplary chemicals to be added to the water may include chlorine or acidic chemicals for maintaining desired c...

Abstract

A sensor comprising first and second electrodes may be used to determine the concentration of at least one chemical component in a fluid sample under test. Electrodes may be deployed in the fluid sample, and a predetermined voltage may be applied to the first electrode. The voltage allows a current to flow through the sample between the first and second electrodes, the current being dependent on the concentration of the chemical species in the fluid sample. A sense resistor is coupled to the first electrode such that current flowing between the electrodes flows through the sense resistor. A processor electrically isolated from the electrodes may receive a data signal indicative of a voltage drop across the sense resistor and an applied voltage at the first electrode. The received signal can be used to determine the concentration of the component in the fluid sample.

Description

[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS [0002] This application claims priority to US Patent Application Serial No. 14 / 535,523, filed November 7, 2014, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. technical field [0003] The present disclosure relates to concentration monitoring of fluid samples, such as monitoring the concentration of chlorine in a pool or spa. Background technique [0004] Distribution systems used to dispense certain substances (eg, chlorine) in fluids (eg, reclaimed water bodies such as pools, spas, water parks, etc.) often require sensing the concentration of the substance. One type of sensor used for this application is an oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) sensor used to monitor chlorine levels in regenerated water bodies. ORP sensors measure the ability of a substance to act as an oxidizing or reducing agent. Chlorine is an oxidizing agent, so the presence of chlorine in a fluid can be indirectly measured by an ORP ...
