Problems solved by technology

Therefore, it becomes more difficult to maintain mapping data
Incorrect mapping will result in incoming 3G traffic to the terminal having to be rerouted from the MSC recorded at handover to another base station and MSC, and may result in prolonged call setup times which may lead to failure of connection attempts

Embodiment Construction

[0042] This embodiment is used in relevant standards (especially 3GPP Automatic Neighbor Relationships (TS36.300: Section 22.3.2a )) defined multiple functions. This point will not be discussed in detail, except as required for an understanding of the invention.

[0043] figure 1 is a schematic diagram of a Mobility Management Entity (MME), showing a number of functional elements that cooperate to perform the process of the present invention. Each functional element will usually be embodied in software running on one or more processors, and elements not related to the inventive concept are omitted.

[0044] The mobility management entity (MME) 12 includes a control interface 20 which, under the control of the mobility management entity, communicates with the various base stations (eNodeBs) and routinely controls functions such as handover, call routing, etc. Attachment processing 22, 24, 25 which occurs upon contact 21; and associated data storage 23, 27 already discusse...

Abstract

A mobile telecommunication system, a mobility management entity MME, a base station and an operation method. The mobile terminal (11) sends data related to a neighbor base station (13) of a second network to a base station (1) of a first network. A base station (1) sends neighbor data to a network management processor (12) controlling the mobile communication system, which maintains a mapping data store (27) associating base stations with neighbor base stations. Mapping facilitates a dual-attach process that allows a terminal to connect to both networks, thereby facilitating the transfer of connections between the networks.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to mobile cellular telephones, and in particular to tracking and maintenance of location area maps required by a network control system to support dual attach processing. Background technique [0002] The present invention extends the interface between the base station and the network to be able to update the Tracking Area / Location Area (TA / LA) required by the network to support the dual attach handling required for circuit switched fallback using neighbor cell information. As user-provided microcells (femtocells) whose locations are more dynamic than traditional fixed base stations become more common, maintaining the mapping table becomes more difficult. The present invention provides a mechanism for updating the TA / LA mapping table in real time based on the information obtained by the user terminal, which is communicated to the base station and thus to the network management system. [0003] The dual-attach process enab...
