Abstract

An engine control system includes an internal combustion engine including a plurality of cylinders. The intake manifold is connected to the internal combustion engine. The exhaust manifold is connected to the internal combustion engine. A supercharger is connected to the intake passage and intake manifold and includes a variable speed drive. A throttle valve is provided in the intake passage. The exhaust channel is connected with the exhaust manifold. A passive selective catalytic reduction catalyst system communicates with the exhaust passage. An exhaust gas recirculation passage communicates with the exhaust passage and the intake passage and includes an exhaust gas recirculation valve. The controller controls the supercharger's variable speed drive and throttle valve and exhaust gas recirculation valve based on engine conditions.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to the use of a single supercharger also equipped with a variable speed drive for an internal combustion engine highly diluted by excess air and recirculated exhaust gas. Background technique [0002] This section provides background information related to the present disclosure which is not necessarily prior art. [0003] High levels of boost dilution by excess air along with recirculated exhaust gases are considered to be one of the techniques to further the thermal efficiency of internal combustion engines beyond engine size reduction. [0004] For lean-burn internal combustion engines, three-way catalysts (TWC), which are commonly used on stoichiometric engines, cannot be effectively used to control NOx to meet increasingly stringent exhaust emission regulations. To manage NOx, an SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) catalyst system is also required. One type of SCR technology that is particularly attractive for lean...
