The method comprises the steps that a switching device in a power distribution system is adopted as a boundary element, a breadth traversal algorithm is adopted, components in the power distribution system are divided into a plurality of component blocks; according to the distance with a main power sourcein the power distribution system, on the basis of the rule from near to far, the switching device is subjected to levelarrangement, and the component blocks are concluded into levelsadjacent to the high-level switching device; supposing that a certain component block breaks down, the high-level switching device achieving the protecting effect on the fault component block is disconnected in sequence; according to the connecting relation between the main power source or backup power source in the power distribution network and loads connected with the component blocks, the influence of the fault component on the reliability of each load is judged; the influences of all the component block faults on the reliability of each load are counted, and the reliability index of the power distributionsystem is worked out.
